The First Certificate in English (FCE) or B2 First is a test administered by Cambridge Assessment. The FCE is meant to assess at the B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). A good score on the FCE shows that you possess the language skills that are needed to communicate confidently in an English-speaking setting.
The CAE or C1 Advanced is intended to assess people at the C1 level of the CEFR; this test is also an effective assessment tool for the B2 and C2 levels of the CEFR. Scoring well on the FCE indicates that a person is able to function at a high level in an English speaking environment.
As mentioned above, the FCE primarily assesses test takers in the CEFR B2 range; whereas, the CAE primarily assesses test takers in the CEFR C1 range. The FCE is an upper intermediate level English assessment, while the CAE is an advanced level English assessment. Basically, the CAE is the more difficult of the two tests.
